Lure Talk, Tungsten & Growing the Scene

On Saturday, 5th July, FiTU proudly took part in the Reading & District Angling Association (RDAA) Open Day a well-attended, community-focused event that showcased the full range of fishing disciplines supported by the club.

Traditionally known for its strong focus on coarse and carp fishing, it was great to see lure fishing stepping confidently into the spotlight. Our brand ambassador Adam Jones (aka London Perch Finder) was invited as a guest speaker, and delivered an engaging talk about all things lure fishing, covering everything from gear selection and rigging to modern techniques and tackle innovation.

After the main talk, Adam, Sam Taylor, and Momo hosted a more informal “Lure Essentials” session around Adam’s boat, which was on display for the day. It became a hub for conversation, where anglers of all backgrounds , from seasoned perch hunters to complete beginners , came together to talk rigs, tactics, and of course, tungsten.

There was no on-the-water session this time, but the bank-side energy was undeniable. It was a day of shared knowledge, good conversations, and real enthusiasm for where modern lure fishing is headed, especially in spaces that have historically leaned toward other styles of angling.

This open day served as a great reminder that the UK’s lure scene is growing steadily, with more anglers than ever curious about what’s possible with the right gear and guidance.

We’re incredibly proud of Adam and Sam for representing FiTU with passion and knowledge , and grateful to Reading & District Angling Association for giving lure fishing such a strong platform at the event.
